Thousands of Brazilians are actively fighting wars, defending the flags of other nations. United States, France, Canada and Israel are frequent destinations. Others, less common, include countries such as Russia, Spain and the controversial private security companies that make contracts in conflict regions. At the War of Others aims to observe and contextualize the experiences of these Brazilian volunteers abroad. It is a smaller-scale approximation of the great themes that govern contemporary geopolitics.
By exposing these soldiers' relationships, we will give the viewer tools to draw their own conclusions. The question that guides us is: what makes a person leave his country to fight a war that does not belong to his people?
